Measures IgG antibody levels for diagnosing current, recent, or past dengue infection.
The Dengue IgG test is a blood test that detects IgG antibodies produced by the body in response to dengue virus infection. IgG antibodies appear more slowly than IgM and typically indicate a past infection or, in rising levels, a recent secondary infection. IgG persists long-term in the bloodstream, making it useful for understanding exposure history and identifying reinfection risks.
Because dengue antibody levels change throughout the illness, doctors often evaluate IgG results together with IgM or NS1 to clarify whether the infection is current, recent, or past.

The Dengue IgG test is performed to detect IgG-class antibodies that the immune system produces in response to dengue virus infection. IgG antibodies typically appear more gradually than IgM antibodies and remain in the bloodstream for months to years after infection. Because of this long-term persistence, IgG is highly useful for identifying past dengue infections and for assessing immunity patterns in individuals living in dengue-endemic regions.
During an acute dengue infection, IgM levels rise first, followed by IgG. If the IgG value rises significantly—typically a four-fold or greater increase between two samples taken 2 to 4 weeks apart—it strongly indicates a recent infection, especially in cases of secondary dengue. When IgG is positive but IgM is negative or low, it usually suggests a previous infection, not an active one.
Doctors may request this test when a patient has symptoms of dengue or when they need to evaluate immunity, secondary infections, or prior exposure. The test is simple, requires no fasting, and provides essential information for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
